 | Looks
In my opinion, this is by far the best looking small truck on the
market. Clean, not gimmicky. Rugged American look.
|
 | Power
V6 power is very good, especially from a stop.
|
 | Size
This truck is the perfect size for me. Not too small like most
of the other "Mini-Utes" I looked at. Very maneuverable in parking
lots and it holds plenty of stuff.
|
 | Dash Layout
Again, in my opinion, this truck has the best looking dash in the
small truck would. Clean, not gimmicky. Very good
ergonomics. White gauges took a little getting used to, but I
think they are great now.
|
 | Keyless Entry
I love this feature. Quite a few people have complained that
the Escape does not have a key lock on the passenger door. I would
gladly give up this lock for the keyless entry.
|
 | Ride
Only one way to describe it... car like. It is a little firm,
but not at all harsh. There is no bounce in the ride like many
trucks have. Handling is very good for a truck, but it is not as
good as most cars.
|
 | Cargo Net
I never had this before in a car. Great for storing groceries
and small items. Keeps them from banging around in the cargo area.
|
 | Engine Sound
The V6 has a nice little growl to it. Not obtrusive, just lets
you know it is doing something
|
 | Rear Wiper
I had this feature in my first long term car (a Plymouth Horizon)
and loved it. My second car, a Honda Civic EX Sedan, did not have
this feature and I missed it. Glad to have it again.
|
 | All Wheel Drive/ABS - Bad Weather Traction
Finally got to use the Escape in the snow... and it is great. I
actively seeked out hills covered in snow that stranded my old Honda.
The Escape made it up with no problem in the 4x4 Auto setting. The
ABS worked very good as well. In the rain, there is minimal wheel
slip under hard acceleration from a stop. The truck just goes. |
|
 | Quality Problems
You can read about them in my "Escape Log" section of this site.
I've have had 3 issues in the first 2000 miles - a bad sunroof switch, a
rattle in the drivers door and a whine from the alternator when the
lights are on. Around 3000 miles, new rattles have appeared in the
windows. Around 4500 miles, the fuel pump started to whine.
|
 | Hard Plastic Dash And Interior Door Panels
The dash and door panels look good, but do not feel very good.
My old Honda came with a soft touch dash and door panels. The hard
door panel is tough on the elbow.
|
 | Rattles
As mentioned above, I had a rattle in the drivers door. It was
a bad door latch striker that was replaced under warrantee. That
rattle was fixed, but new ones have appeared in the windows when rolled
partially down.
|
 | A Little Noisy
There is not a lot of sound insulation in this truck. Road
noise and wind noise are high at highway speeds with the windows down.
Not terrible with the windows up.
|
 | Fog Lights Only Work With Low Beams
For some reason, the fog lights turn off when you turn on the high
beams. Not the end of the world, but a little annoying.
|
 | Front Wheel Brake Dust
This is a big complaint of many Escape owners. Wheels will be
covered in brake dust within a week of driving and almost black with in
2 weeks.
|
 | Front Speakers Buzz With Bass
The stock front door speakers cannot handle much volume or bass.
You must adjust the fader on the radio so that more power is directed
towards the rear speakers to get adequate sound.
|
 | Front Seats Are Small
I am 5'-11" tall and 225 lbs. The seats feel like they are
about 10 percent smaller than in most other cars. They are
comfortable, but I wish the lower cushion was larger.
