Friend points out swirl marks by the gas cap
door. Upon further inspection I discover additional swirls on the
hatch. Probably from the dealers detailer. Looks like they are
from a rotary buffer. Also sunroof switch giving me problems. If you don't push right in the middle of the button, it stops closing/opening. Will have this checked out at 1st service. While I was going around a disabled pick-up a few days ago, some yelled "Something fell off you truck!" in my general direction. I assumed that they were yelling at the disabled driver so I didn't stop. Soon after, a creek appeared in my Escape. Sounds like it is coming from either the drivers seat or the driver side B-pillar when I hit the gas or the brake. I will have the dealer inspect the seat and check the bolts and anchors under the truck at 1st service. |
| 07-11-02 | 1,453 | Made first service appointment to fix sunroof
open/close switch. Sunroof would not close today after driving to
work. Pushed switch and nothing. After waiting 2 hrs, I tried
again and it closed. Has been an intermittent problem since acquiring
the truck. Was going to wait until 3000 mile 1st service, but problem
has gotten bad enough to require service now. It's summer time and I
want my sunroof!!!!! Will also have them check drivers seat for occasional creek. The creek is now intermittent. |
| 07-16-02 | 1,540 | Dropped truck off at dealer. Of course, the sunroof worked perfectly when I dropped it off. They had to hold it for more than one day. I also had them check rattling under truck, a high pitched whir from the engine while the truck is at idle, movement in the drivers seat when stopping, and a vibrating/buzz noise from the front speakers when the radio plays a song with a lot of bass or the volume is loud enough to hear the radio at highway speeds with the windows open. I also want them to compound out the scratches caused by their detailer. |
| 07-18-02 | 1,574 | Picked up the truck from the dealer.
They had to order parts. I thought they fixed the sunroof, opened it,
but it wouldn't close. Read the work receipt after opening the sunroof
and found out that the switch was bad and they ordered a new one.
Should have read the work receipt 1st. Took
the truck home, took the overhead console off and squeezed the button from
both sides and the sunroof closed. As for the other issues mentioned above, the
work order states the following... * Creak sound from b-pillar or seat and rattling under truck - Ordered new latch for drivers side door. * Hi pitch whir at idle - Noise is normal. * Movement in drivers seat - check operation and track. Operation normal. * Buzz noise from front doors with high volume - Compared with other vehicles on lot. Normal Operation I'm a little disappointed that Ford would install speakers that can't handle the power of the head unit. They also did not compound out the scratches. Made tentative appointment for Wed, Aug 1st to drop truck off again for installation of new parts. No sunroof for 2 more weeks...AARRGGGGG!!! |
| 07-19-02 | 1,508 | Figured out work around for buzzing front
door speakers - use fade control to put more power to the rear speakers.
They handle the volume much better. Also noticed that motor is not very smooth when cold. Seems to stumble until it warms up. Engine seems to accelerate in small steps instead of smoothly. Also notice the occasional hard start. Seems to happen less when I put the key in and turn it to ON of a few seconds before starting. |
| 07-22-02 | 1,657 | Movement in seat seems to be coming from seatback, not the seat track. If you push the seat at the top, front to back, the seatback moves very slightly. Same movement is in the passenger seat. This movement feels like what I occasionally notice while driving. |
| 07-30-02 | 1,849 | Called dealership to confirm arrival of new parts. Service rep. could not tell me if parts were in, transferred me to parts department. Parts rep. confirmed parts were in. Asked to be transferred back to Service Dept. so I could confirm my appointment. They originally told me Wed, Aug 1st, however, Wed is July 31st. Phone rang 14 times, no answer. I called again 5 minutes later... no answer. I called again 20 min. later... no answer. I call 2 hrs after that and got my Service rep. He confirmed the appointment for Wednesday, so I dropped the truck off. |

button has a slight, reassuring click that was not there before. Works great.
Plus all the rattling from the B-pillar and under the truck seems to be
gone. Here is the repair description from the work receipt:
"SQUEAK RATTLE POP NOISE LEFT B-PILLAR ON ACCEL OR DECEL This time they also fixed the scratches by the detailer. The truck is currently better then when it was delivered. Loving it now.... |
| 08-23-02 | 2,380 | Last week I figured out that the "hi pitch whir" at idle is coming from my alternator. I discovered this when I looked under the hood at night. I couldn't pin point the noise just looking under the hood. I turned the lights off before I stopped the engine and the whine got quieter. Turned the lights back on and it got louder. I also found it gets louder when I open or close a window. The extra electrical load makes it whine. This is especially annoying if I want to drive at night without the radio on. I will point this out to the dealer at the 3,000 mile service. |

I ordered the moonroof deflector, the Escape bug shield, the Ford black plastic hitch cover, the stainless steel scuff plates, and the black door edge guards. I'll let you know when they arrive.
